Side effects of Mobile phone
Modern
lifestyle is the modernized style of living that ease our life, daily
activities, working process etc. Modern lifestyle has great advantage. Modern
technology saves our money, times, lives. But there has some disadvantage.
Due to modern lifestyle, we are habituated with various bad habits that continuously
effects our health. One of these bad habits is “Too much use of Mobile phone”. Now
we will know about it.
Communication
has powerfully improved after invention of mobile phone. We can communicate
with people of another country easily. Besides, we get various information
quickly through internet by using a smart phone. But too much use of smart
phone is harmful for our health.
1.
Researcher
says that, the long-wave blue light that emits from smart phone is seriously
harmful for our eyes. It directly affects cornea (the clear transparent outer
layer of eye that helps to focus light, so that we can see image clearly);
causes eye strain, dryness of eye, early cataract, myopia, glaucoma etc.
2.
Use
of mobile phone before sleep causes insomnia. Modern study shows that,
*** Those who use mobile phone (Phone
call+chat+Internet browsing+Video games+others) more than 5 hours per day suffer
from sever insomnia (No sleep at night or less than 3 hours sleep per day).
*** Those who use mobile phone (Phone
call+chat+Internet browsing+Video games+others) for 4-5 hours per day suffer
from moderate insomnia (4-5 hours’ sleep per day).
*** Those who use mobile phone (Phone
call+chat+Internet browsing+Video games+others) for 2-3 hours per day suffer
from mild insomnia (5-6 hours’ sleep per day).
The ideal timing of sleep is sound
sleep for 8 hours. So as an Unani Physician we suggest to use phone less than
120 minutes per day.
3.
Keep
Smart phone besides head or near bed during sleeping causes different disease
of brain. Mobile phone emits radio-frequency energy that easily absorbed by
brain tissue while phone kept near head. This non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation
increase the risk of brain tumor & brain cancer.
4.
Excessive
chat or texting cause carpal tunnel syndrome (Median nerve compression that
causes numbness, tingling & pain in hand) & neck pain.
5.
Listening
music on headphone/earphone decrease hearing ability. The sound waves from
earphone vibrate eardrum & reaches in the inner area. When this vibration
reaches in cochlea (a part of inner ear), it affects the hair cells (it
transforms sound wave to electrical signals) of organ of corti. Excessive
vibration damage hair cells, thus causes deafness. Besides it also causes
tinnitus, dizziness, pain in the ear etc.
6.
Keeping
smart phone on pants pocket causes infertility. Researcher says that, the
harmful radiation of smart phone & other electromagnetic devices directly
absorbed by tissue near to that device. This radiation extremely affects on
sperm quality (motility, viability, size, shape & other morphology) &
decrease sperm count. So, this is one of the important causes of male
infertility. Similarly, radiation & vibration of smartphone hampers ovum
production & causes hormonal imbalance in female.
7.
Smartphone
affects mental health. Study shows that, teenagers who use smartphones (mainly social
media, chats & video games) suffers from depression more than other teens
who don’t use that. Researcher also says that, those who chats more than 120
minutes time daily, suffers from severe depression, anxiety, lack of creativity
or deep thinking etc. Spending a lot of time on social media increase risk of
narcissism (a mental disorder, selfishness/self-love/self-admiration).
8.
Smartphone
effects marital life & relationship. Study shows that, 57% relationship breaks
due to phubbing (ignoring one’s companion due to pay attention on mobile or another
device). One-third divorce occurs due to arrival of third-person. Now-a-days
maximum third persons are from social media.
Lifestyle
modification:
1.
Don’t
use phone more than 30 minute at a time. In every 30 minutes, take a break for
5-10 minutes. During break wash your eyes with clean water. Then lying down on
bed (Shavasana), close eye & cover with cucumber slices or wet cotton
bolls.
2.
Don’t
keep phone besides head or near bed when you go to sleep. It would be better if
you don’t keep phone on your bedroom.
3.
Don’t
use earphone in noisy place. Because it increases sound frequency (e.g. if you
hear a music of 70 db, due to additional noise it becomes 90 db).
4.
Never
use earphone more than 30 minutes at a time.
5.
Reduce
chat or texting. Try to communicate with others by direct phone call instead of
chatting. It prevents pain of hand & neck as well as saves time.
6.
Don’t keep phone on front pocket of pants.
7.
Try
to not use phone after 9 pm (or at least 1 hour before sleep). It would be
better for reducing insomnia. Besides, it will bring happiness in marital life.
