The lungs are
one of the most important organs in our body. The main function of lungs is to
maintain respiration. Respiration is the basic need of our body. If our lungs
become weak, it can’t maintain the process of respiration. As a result, oxygen
can’t reach into body tissues & hypoxia will develop that divert human body
to death.
So, it is very
important to keep our lungs healthy. Some herbs are harmful for lung, because
due to excessive use of these herbs the normal structure of lungs become
destroyed. During acute inflammation of lungs, we should not eat some foods,
because these foods increase the production of phlegm & slow down the
healing process. As a result, it causes persistent cough, recurrent cough or
chronic inflammation of lungs.
Now I will
describe about it.
Foods that
should be avoided during cough:
1. Pineapple/Ananas (Ananas sativus)
2. Papaya/Papita (Carica papaya)
3. Lettuce/Kahu (Lactuca sativa)
4. Tamarind/Tamar hindi (Tamarindus indica)
5. Olive/jaitoon (Olea europaea)
6. Cumin/Jeera safed (Cuminum cyminum)
7. Black cumin/Jeera siyah (Elwendia persica)
8. Cardamom/Heel khurd (Elettaria cardamomum)
9. Nutmeg/Jouzboa (Myristica fragrans)
10. Bay leaf/Sazaj hindi (Cinnamomum tamala)
11. Coriander/kashneez (Coriandrum sativum)
These foods
should be avoided only that time when you are attacked with seasonal cough or
acute inflammation of lungs. During other days when you remain healthy you can
eat these foods.
Herbs that are
harmful for lungs:
1. Pyrethrum root/Akarkarah (Anacyclus pyrethrum)
2. Cuscuta/Afteemon (Cuscuta epithymum)
3. Hazelwort/Asaroon (Asarum europaeum)
4. Oleander/Kaneer (Nerium indicum)
5. Chicory/Kasni (Cichorium intybus)
6. Poppy seed/Tukhme khaskhas (Papaver somniferum)
7. Gum guggul/Mukil (Commiphora wightii)
8. Rheum/Rewand chini (Rheum officinale)
9. Fumitory/Shahtara (Fumaria parviflora)
10. Alum
Excessive use
of these herbs cause serious injury to lungs. So, whenever physician prepares
medicines from these herbs, they add other herbs to reduce toxicity.
